I usually don’t get out to see new movies that often, at least not right when they come out. We have not far from our house one of those theaters that shows 2nd runs at a much cheaper price (and much MUCH cheaper snacks!) that we prefer to go to.
One that I’ve been looking forward to is 10 Cloverfield Lane:
When I first saw the trailer for it around Super Bowl time it really stuck with me. I had seen Cloverfield and thought it was neat with an indirect view of a monster attack. The atmosphere demonstrated in the trailers intrigued me– what is going on here? And lately I’ve really been enjoying John Goodman’s serious acting (like in Red State). The fact that I’ve enjoyed much of J.J. Abrams’ work (especially Lost) was just icing on the cake.
So I finally went and saw it last night. Overall, I’m very satisfied with it and it exceeded my expectations. I already knew going into it that it wasn’t a direct sequel to Cloverfield and wasn’t about the same events so that part didn’t bother me like it seems to have annoyed other fans. Goodman’s acting was great, as well as the female lead Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Believable acting during unbelievable events is always appreciated.
My friend didn’t like the ending that much, but he hadn’t seen Cloverfield and wasn’t aware of the otherworldly ties. I thought it was great. Overall it really matched the theme of his little anthology.
Definitely a recommended view for any fans of psychological thrillers or horror. I gave it 9/10 stars.
